Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki, often referred to as energy healing, addresses chronic health conditions and encourages emotional release and an improved state of mind. Many use Reiki in conjunction with traditional therapy.

What is Reiki?

Reiki therapy is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us. If a person’s life force energy is low they are vulnerable to sickness and stress. Conversely, when their energy is high they have better health and more happiness. Reiki is administered by a certified practitioner who promotes the transfer of energy through their hands. The hand placement moves the energy through the body where the flow may be blocked.

How is a Reiki treatment given?

During a treatment, Reiki energy flows from the practitioner’s hands to the client who is lying on a massage table or is seated. The client is fully clothed and the practitioner places their hands on or near the client’s body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, stomach and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the client’s needs. Each position is held for three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. Treatments at Boulevard Therapy are 50 minutes.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?

Experiences during a Reiki treatment vary somewhat, however, deep relaxation is experienced by many. Many feel a glowing radiance flowing through and around them. The Reiki energy encourages the release of tension, anxiety, fear and other challenging feelings and induces peace and well-being. Some drift off to sleep or feel they are floating, and some may have visions or profound realizations. At the end of the treatment, many often feel refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.
